Webcams: Science-Fiction Becomes Reality

One of the most incredible inventions I’ve ever come across is the web cam and its process of video conferencing. This is just so futuristic I can’t believe they really exist and are readily available to anyone with the Internet, speakers, and the right software. I’m not absolutely sure but doesn’t this spell the end of telephones? Now we can have conversations with people on the other side of the world, and see their face moving as we hear them speaking live.

Picture this: You’re an Antarctic explorer on a solo journey in the middle of the ice and snow on your way to the South Pole. The only living creatures around are the slippery penguins sliding around having fun. You’re in your special tent keeping safe from the intense wind from the blizzard outside. As you boil up water on your portable stove you flip open your laptop (with battery recharger, broadband Internet, and in-built speakers) and connect with your family back in Russia. You can see their smiles as you hear them speak. What a magical connection!

Another great aspect of video conferencing is the fact that you can communicate with whole groups of people at once either through networking a group of computers or by form of broadcast. This is a huge step forward for both companies and for schools. I’ve heard corporations have saved a lot of money and time, and students are enjoying learning this way much more than from a textbook. Informed people can talk to classes and help them learn, where otherwise they wouldn’t be able to because of time and distance restrictions. This is also a bonus for children who have different learning styles. E.G. The more visual types who understand better when they can see what they’re working with.

Feasibly, a surgeon in Japan could watch an operation in Australia and even ask the doctor in progress questions about procedures. It’s obvious that video conferencing will both help humans evolve further through the sharing of knowledge as well as keep loved ones more connected when they are far from home.

A lot of people who are either fascinated or obsessed with sex will also tell you about the benefits of this technology for their voyeuristic purposes, but I’m not going to go there. Science Fiction has once again turned to reality, and I hope we can truly make the most of this invention created by humans who wish to make society a better place.

Caribbean vacations can generally fit just about any budget. When searching for reasonable travel packages to the Caribbean, the best place to look is the Internet. Conduct a search and you’ll see: there are literally thousands of options from which to choose.

Caribbean vacations are a wonderful experience for people of all ages and cruises are the best way to truly experience everything the Caribbean has to offer. You can find the best deals via the Internet but read on below to find out more.

An Eastern Caribbean cruise is the perfect option for both first-time cruisers and experienced travelers looking for a slow and relaxing pace in comfortable surroundings. They are also ideal for people who have never been to the Caribbean before. Eastern Caribbean cruises are great for families because they visit only a small number of ports, so most of the cruise time is actually spent on board the ship and often with two consecutive days as sea.

There is plenty to do on the islands of the Eastern Caribbean. You can visit the famous beaches and try snorkeling, sailing, and or even golf. Shop for souvenirs and luxury goods imported from around the world including jewelry, perfumes, crystal, porcelain, cameras, electronics and more at tax-free prices at the extensive array of shops. And don’t forget to have a cooling drink at one of the many cafes and restaurants. And if you are a gambler then you don’t get left out either because the islands have the largest casinos in the Caribbean.

There is no doubt that the world’s most popular cruising destination is the Caribbean and one of the most in demand tours includes the Bahamas and the eastern islands that define the border between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. During an Eastern Caribbean Cruise you will probably visit three or four of the following islands:

  • Nassau
  • St. Thomas, USVI
  • St. John, USVI
  • St. Maarten
  • San Juan, Puerto Rico
  • Tortola, BVI
  • Virgin Gorda, BVI
  • Cruise Line Private Islands

Eastern Caribbean cruises are very affordable and available year-round for 7 nights. Longer itineraries from 10-12 nights are available during the winter months.

CPU Guide - Detailed Information About the CPU of a Computer

CPU - Central Processing Unit

The brain of the computer. A lot of people like to call the entire computer case the CPU, but actually, the CPU is a tiny chip connected directly to the motherboard, with a big fan connected directly to it. Without the fan, the CPU would burn up very quickly.

There are two primary brands of CPU on the market right now, Intel & AMD. A better of the two is hard to state, but you can check Toms Hardware for more in depth hardware reviews.

One thing to note about CPU’s is that you can’t just slap any CPU into any Motherboard. The Motherboard must support your specific CPU, which can make upgrades very hairy, so typically, if you’re going to upgrade one, it’s a good idea to upgrade the other. See more on Motherboards on the Motherboard page.

There are also two different types of CPU’s, socket and slot. Socket snaps directly into the motherboard, with a fan directly attached, while slot has a casing which holds the CPU, with a fan connected to the casing. Again, there really is no better of the two, but Socket is becoming more common, and is generally easier to keep cool, which is a BIG factor in CPU’s at higher speeds.

CPU speeds are rated in Megahertz (Mhz), up to 1000, then they are referred to as Gigahertz (Ghz). One major misconception regarding CPU’s is that the bigger the number (the megahertz/gigahertz), the faster the CPU. While this is generally true, there are several other factors that effect the overall speed of the CPU.

Front Side Bus - Regulates the speed of communication between the Ram and the CPU

Onboard Cache - Comparable to Ram, except used strictly by the CPU to speed up calculations

So the next time you’re shopping for CPU’s, remember to not only look at the CPU speed, but check out the other factors most people don’t generally notice.
When buying a CPU, it’s very important to know what you need it for. Most basic users only need internet and some word processing and basic picture editing. Using Windows XP (since it’s the most common home Operating System right now) 2.0 Ghz should be your minimum. This speed is just right for these basic functions, and should be fast enough to last a while, and most of all, it is very cheap.

One thing to note here is that the price difference between the 2.0 Ghz and the upper 2.x Ghz CPU’s (like 2.6 or 2.9) is so slight that you might be better off to get the one slightly higher to last longer over time.

I do NOT suggest buying the fastest cpu on the market, ever.. simply because what you pay six hundred dollars or more for now, will be only a few hundred dollars in a couple of months, and this will always be true as long as cpu speeds keep increasing.

Executive Coaching: Developing Self Confidence

How many articles have you read with titles like “Ten Steps to Developing Self Confidence”? Well I’m sure more than you can count. What does this say about this strategic approach to the issue of enhancing Self Confidence? Well I’ll leave the answer to that question for you to sort out.

In this article I would like to propose a very different approach which requires no memory work on your part. Doesn’t that feel like a relief? All it requires is an awareness of when you are being honest with yourself and a commitment to such personal honesty. Let me explain.

When we define what it means to be “confident” what are we really talking about? Well it basically means that you a) know what you desire and b) you are committed to manifesting that desire.

Now you might say well if I could do that I would already be confident and I wouldn’t be wasting my time reading this article. In response I would say that it is that very negative mind set that robs you of your confidence.

You see the state of “feeling” confident is a reward that you receive from deep within yourself, one might say from deep within your inner wisdom, when you decide, through your freewill, to heed its desires for you. Some “think” this takes courage because within and without there appear to be so many obstacles (i.e. negative beliefs/emotions) to choosing such a road within one’s self.

These obstacles include such things as issues of worthiness, self doubt, fear of being ostracized , the need for permission from others, guilt feelings, dread, fears of making a mistake and many other negative beliefs/emotions. These so called obstacles, if you let them wrestle your confidence and your life away from you by diverting you from following your deep inner wisdom.

Such obstacles are the result of much life conditioning due to emotional trauma that exists within you and which can be quickly and easily released.

They divert you from your deep core values (i.e. what you desire for yourself in your life) by seducing you into believing things that are essentially not true. For instance an example might go something like this:

1. My feelings of unworthiness keep me from being overly zealous, so that,

2. Others won’t think badly of me, so that,

3. They will like, appreciate, approve of and possibly love me, so that,

4. I can feel accepted by others, so that,

5. I can feel happy, at peace, and like a good or worthy person.

In other words:

(A) The feelings of unworthiness are supposed to make me feel like a worthy person.

Does that sound true to you? Likely not because it is totally illogical. Yet, this is what you have been carrying in your unconscious mind if you have ever entertained feelings of unworthiness.

Is that what you want? If not, kindly admit that to yourself and then notice what happens to your confidence level.

Although this is a difficult concept to put across in article form, if you followed me even half the way you might have noticed some kind of internal emotional shift happened.

What many experience when I work with them directly in this way are some or all of the following: great increase in their sense of self confidence, a complete release of feelings of unworthiness (in this case), great resilience, an inner strength and solidity, a feeling of lightness and buoyancy, happiness, inner peace, a fearlessness, and a greater awareness of what it is that they truly desire for themselves.

In such a transformation what has happened is that they have, by releasing the negative feelings of unworthiness, realigned themselves with their deep inner wisdom, where they hold their core values, and are thus “rewarded” with the feeling state I just described. In such a place they are acutely aware of and strengthened in their ability to manifest what is right for them.

Another way of saying this is that they are more able to be honest with themselves. It is this personal honesty that breeds confidence. To put it another way just notice what happens to your self confidence when you lie to yourself or others. Doesn’t it plummet?

Indeed one might say that when one begins to become “honest” with one’s self that they start to feel so good that it almost becomes painful to diverge from their core values. Another way to say this is that their sensitivity to being out of alignment with their core values becomes uncomfortable and undesirable.

In other words, aligning yourself with your inner wisdom actually “supports” you in staying aligned there. Now how is that for help? You probably didn’t even know that deep within you had such a staunch supporter did you?

Well if you would like to unleash it then kindly visit the web link below where I have a special message waiting for you.

Unleash The Power Of Perpetual Marketing

I describe perpetual marketing as a large number of
people promoting one web site so they can all receive
the traffic generated by each other.

For example, you decide to create a free ebook that
you will give away to your web site visitors. You ask
a large number of e-zine owners to give away the
ebook in exchange for their ad in the ebook. You can
just ask them to link directly to your web site when
they promote the ebook. You, of course, will have
one of your own ads on that web page.

Let’s say you get 8 out of 20 e-zine owners that agree
to giveaway the ebook. The 8 e-zines total subscriber
base is 75,000.

Now, you can ask more e-zine owners if they would
like to promote the ebook in exchange for an ad inside
the ebook. This time you can say, you already have 8
e-zines already promoting the ebook with a subscriber
base of 75,000.

The next group of e-zine owners you ask will be more
tempted to promote your ebook because there is a
greater chance they will receive a lot of traffic from
the deal. It’s win/win situation!

Do you understand the power of perpetual marketing?
You could have 20 or 30 e-zines promoting your web
site at no-cost, very quickly! You could create a new,
free ebook every month and repeat the process.

This isn’t the only way to use perpetual marketing.
You don’t just have to contact e-zine publishers you
could do the same with web site owners. You could
use a total monthly visitor total as motivation.

It doesn’t have to be just an ebook either. It could be
a contest you’re holding on your web site. You could
place the other web site’s ads on the contest page in
exchange for them promoting the contest.

These are only a few ways to use perpetual marketing.
You could use your own imagination to create new
ways to use perpetual marketing that will increase your
traffic and sales.

Do You Really Need To Wear A Moisturizer?

You just may be able to get away without using a moisturizer.

“Not everyone needs or should use a moisturizer, especially women with oily, combination, or acne-prone skin!” Paula Begoun, author of Don’t Go to the Cosmetics Counter Without Me, writes on her website. But what if you just can’t part with your favorite day and night creams? What should you be looking for when shopping for a moisturizer?

According to Paula, a good moisturizer should contain emollients (essential for making skin not feel dry), water-binding agents (ingredients that attract water to the skin and help keep it there), anti-irritants and antioxidants. For daytime, it must contain a well-formulated sunscreen.

If you have an oily t-zone area (forehead, nose and cheeks) and your skin is normal to dry elsewhere on your face, you have combination skin. Most of us will have combination skin at some point in our lives. Use an oil-free moisturizer in the t-zone and a light moisturizer on other areas. In order to normalize your skin, it may be necessary to apply two different types of products on the different areas of your skin. Alternatively, you can skip the moisturizer for your t-zone entirely and just moisturize the cheeks and eyes.

If you have dry skin, your skin may feel dry and itchy and wrinkles are more obvious on your skin than other skin types. Although the use of a moisturizer can help to temporarily smooth out wrinkles, none of them can turn back the clock. Choose one which makes your skin look smooth and feel supple. A water-based moisturizer is preferable, although it won’t last as long as an oil-based moisturizer. However, emollients in water-based moisturizers such as plant oils and shea butter can help to provide your skin with essential moisture. (Tip: Apply moisturizer on damp skin to lock in moisture.)

If you have sensitive skin, you may have red patches on your face and/or are easily irritated by using certain products. It can be difficult to find a product which doesn’t aggravate your skin and cause breakouts or unsightly rashes. Look for moisturizers which do not contain fragrance and ingredients which you know can be potentially irritating to your skin. Even something as harmless as Aloe Vera can cause skin irritations!

Sunscreens are essential for daytime wear to protect your skin from the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays. There are plenty of sunscreens on the market which hydrate the skin as well as protect the skin from the harmful rays of the sun. Why not skip the moisturizer and wear a sunscreen instead? The fewer products on your skin, the less likely your skin will develop an irritation to any of the ingredients.

Decorating for Renters - Part 1 Getting Started

When you are renting an apartment, you often feel like making changes is not on the agenda. After all, you don’t own the space so what can you do? In this three part series, we will teach you how to devise a game plan to decorate to make your apartment feel like a home.

For every decorating project, large or small, the first step is always a walk through. You need to get a tablet or a notebook and walk through the area you are thinking of decorating while following these five steps:

  1. Check for trouble spots that will cause a problem later; off center architectural elements, windows, fireplaces doors.
  2. Look for anything permanent which would cause a problem in arranging a room or giving the effect you want. Particularly in older homes and apartments make a note of pipes, radiators, doorways that are closed off, uneven floors etc. In newer homes and apartments, builders often put things like heat ducts, cold air returns and thermostats just where you want to put a piece of furniture or hang a picture. Make note of these.
  3. Check for trouble spots, things that throw a room off center, or ‘uglies.’ As a renter you don’t have the options of a home owner to paint, pull apart, tear down or add to the permanent fixtures in your home. So if you don’t like the looks of the layout or the color of the carpet, write it down here.
  4. Mark down and measure electrical, phone, or cable outlets for TV’s and computers.
  5. Check windows. Do they need to be covered for privacy or to keep out light? Are the windows unusually high or too close to the floor? Are they off center, or in the middle of a wall you need for furniture placement? Now is the time to measure windows. Measure the distance from the wall and between windows, the actual size of the window, and most importantly how many inches there are from the floor to the sill (or base of window). Make a note on which windows receive sun and when.

Next you need to make a checklist of the contents of the room. Decide how the room will be used; single or multi purpose. In apartments and smaller houses you will often find you need to use the dining area for the computer or the bedroom as a craft area. Once you have your purpose you are ready to start your shopping list.

  • List and measure the things you have that you will keep. If you are doing a floor to ceiling make over, you will need measurements of pieces of furniture, as well as the length and height of walls. If you have a digital camera, better yet. You can put the information into your computer. The pictures don’t have to be perfect, they are just memory jogs.
  • List the things that are worn out or won’t work and which you will either eliminate or replace with something else.
  • Finally list any purchases that need to be made with descriptions if necessary and sizes.

When you have done all this, look over your notes and take one last look at your rooms to make sure you haven’t missed anything which could cause a major problem.

Now for some fun! Go through decorating magazines and books. Perhaps you have saved some pictures of rooms you love. Take a fresh look at them. Perhaps there are things in these pictures which can be used to get the look you want. Or perhaps you’ll see a room that reminds you of the ones you have. Go to furniture showrooms and shops that sell soft furnishings and see what is out there. If you are interested in antiques, check out the antique shops and used furniture/consignment places.

You’ve done the preliminary work so you are ready to go to the next step. Remember that nothing is etched in stone. If you decide on a color scheme and on your first shopping trip fall in love with something that doesn’t match, take a deep breath and reconsider. You can always adjust the plan. However, once the first major purchase is made color changes are expensive.

Part II of this series will help you chose a color palette which will work well for your living space, lifestyle and personal taste.

Phishing - It’s Signs and Your Options

Phishing is the act of some individual sending an email to a user in an attempt to scam the user to release personal information. Is it easy to determine if it’s a scam? Sometimes - but not always. I hope to give you enough examples and information to help you to safeguard yourself from these unsavory individuals.

In addition, sometimes the email is sent to malicious software so as to render your computer helpless. Thus, it is important that you do not click on the link they provide, because that is the trigger that will load the software to your system.

EXAMPLES OF PHISHING

You receive hundreds of emails in your mailbox, but one email catches your eye - it directs you to a website, requesting that you need to update your personal information. It requests such personal information as:

passwords
credit card numbers
social security number
bank account numbers

“It appears to be legitimate”, you say to yourself. And you also notice that the emails are from companies that you have been doing business with for a while. Warning: The website could be bogus.

Here are several examples of phishing in action.

1. E-mails stating they are from E-bay and they feel that your account may have been compromised and would like you to verify your information with they so conveniently supply. DO NOT click on it.
2. E-mails from Paypal or your bank asking that you verify your information because they feel that your account has been compromised, or heaven forbid, suspended. Same scenario, different company. DO NOT click on the link.
3. E-mail that states that an unauthorized transaction has occurred on your account. Please click the link below and confirm your identity. DO NOT.
4. Here’s a work at home scam - We have seen your resume on Monster and feel you would fit our position. If you are interested, please go to our website, look over the experience required and submit your resume if you have this background. Website is professional looking, offer looks good - but it could be a scam.

WHAT ARE THEY AFTER

In the above examples they are after information about you, be it passwords, credit cards, social security numbers, anything that can identify you - and that which they can use to profit from you.

The job email is used to verify that the email address is a true blue, active email address. What do they do with this info - they sell these accounts to spammers for good money. They need to verify your email addressbecause if the spammers come up empty - this person’s business is dead.

HOW TO VERIFY SAFELY

1. If they want you to verify your account, do not cut and paste, or use the link they provide in the email. Close your Internet session, open a new session and enter the site that you have on record to verify.
2. Emails requesting resumes - Verify their account before you send your resume. When verifying - these red flags should be considered:

1) If they are hesitant to provide a phone number - might be a scam. 2) If their business address is not verifiable -might be a scam. 3) If the website is new - might be a scam. 4) If they use a large company’s nameand that company never heard of them - might be a scam.
5) Again, verify this information before you send your resume.

WAYS TO PROTECT YOURSELF

Here are some quick tips to protect you and your computer system.

1. Use anti-virus software and a firewall - keep them up to date.
2. If you have a broadband connection make sure you have a firewall in place.
3. Don’t email personal or financial information.
4. Before providing personal information - search to see if the site is secure - look for a lock icon. However, remember not all phishers are stupid - in fact, they could be computer savvy enough to forge security icons. Thus, look for a site whose link looks like this: https://www.somename.com — this shows that it is a secure site.
5. Coupons from respected companies - Verify that it is a true-blue coupon from the company - I had one coupon sent to my email address from what I thought was Staples. Verified it with Staples - not a coupon honored by Staples. When on the Internet - if it looks like a duck, quacks like a duck, it still may not be a duck!
6. When making transactions on the Internet - be it online banking, Paypal, Internet Gold, etc. - complete your transaction, log out of the website, and close out of your Internet Explorerand then continue with a new session of Internet Explorer.

WHERE TO FORWARD SPAM THAT IS PHISHNG

If you encounter spam that is phishing, or are a victim of a phishing scam, you can forward the information to spam@uce.gov and to the company, bank or organization that the email may have stated they are from. In many cases, the other organizations have information on their website where you can report the attempted scam.

In addition, if you have been scammed, and you wish to file a complaint - go to ftc.gov.

To conclude, no one is immune to spam or a scam. But try to be ever vigilant and do your due diligence with anything you do on the Internet. But being human is a scammer’s hope - they know that most will ignore the bait, but some will be tempted. So, if you so humanly slip, and succumb to a phishing scam, you can report them to ftc.gov.
