Mexico Spring Break

Mexico…a great destination for those who love the sunshine, love to party or enjoy the Mayan culture. The American kids flock to Mexico during Spring Break while the couples choose Mexico as an incredible honeymoon destination. Being so popular, one might think that finding cheap airfare to Mexico is hard. On the contrary…there are plenty of affordable flights from the US into Mexico. If you come from Europe, of course, the ticket will be more on the expensive side.

After you secured your flight, you need a hotel to stay in. Mexico is filled of places to stay for any budget. Actually, even a high-end hotel in the center of the capital can be quite affordable, especially during the extra season. The hostels are even cheaper. You can get by with about US$15-20 per night for a bed.

What to do once arrived here? A lot! If you decided to go to a beach destination, your day will revolve around sun bathing, practicing water sports and trying out the local cuisine. Of course, you can plan for some day trips to Mayan ruins . If you decided to visit the capital, you will do a lot of sightseeing. And don’t forget to check out the outdoor markets and the shops.

Why Self-Published eBooks are Winners

Myths abound about print books being the right kind of book and eBooks are on their last leg. These ideas spring from traditional publishing.

Hopeful authors have read it many times–that a true book, one that will bring you reverent kudos, must be in print and must be long. And it must have a top agent and publisher. Maybe true five-ten years ago. Like you, I believed it at first and went down that rocky road to get an agent, then publisher. Way too hard and took way too long.

My first rule. Write a short book first. Notice famous authors such as Ken Blanchard did. Second rule. Write a non-fiction, self-help book first, then a novel. You’ll experience more success with a non-fiction. Then, you can use the profits to stay the long haul for your fiction.

Follow my lead. First, I wrote print booklets or journals and sold them at the back of the room in seminars of the same name. This led to thousands of income each month. Then I read self-publishing books such as Dan Poynter’s. Right track. But, then I realized one can write a print and an eBook at the same time. And, you can sell either from your own Web site. Or, you can take a 50% or less royalty and sell from someone elses’s site.

Remember one great benefit of eBooks. The author gets by with little cost. You can send the books via email if you don’t have a Web site yet, and you can offer them as downloads at your site.

One great benefit of short eBooks. Your audience loves them. They don’t want to spend a lot of time reading. They want quick solutions in an easy to read format. They don’t want long books over 130 pages with too much extraneous information. Give them answers to their questions and you’ll have a fan for life.

The sad truth that no emerging authors wants to believe–that they can get the publisher to publicize, promote and market their book. Not true. It’s amazing how many bookcoaching clients really want to turn it all over to someone else. The problem is it’s way too expensive, and no one knows nor has more passion for a book than the author. It’s not money that rules, but a creative approach to sharing your wealth.

Another rule. If you can write a book, you can also write ad copy for the book’s introduction, the short “tell and sell,” the back cover, or the Web or email sales letter. You just need some coaching from a pro. Start a promotion savings account and spend a little to get the best words that will attract and give your audience enough information to make it easy to buy.

Join a telegroup that writes each week and exchanges files with each other. Of course make sure the bookcoach is savvy and knows how a saleable book is put together, knows short cuts to write fast, and clear, and gives you useful feedback to help your book grow and get born.

What’s your intention? To think it takes too much time, too much money and you aren’t much of a writer? If you can get by your resistances, you can learn how to write –well. If you put a little daily attention on your book project, you can finish it.

Take some small action today and feel powerful, because authors are a special breed-and the club is awaiting your good news.

Is the Myth of Star Wars Entering the Political Arena

With a recent article in the La Times, Star Wars has gone political. George Lucas has attended a Capital Hill meeting for Democrats.

“Star Wars” filmmaker George Lucas joined House Democratic leaders at a town hall meeting on Capitol Hill to roll out an “innovation agenda” that aims to prepare the next generation of technological entrepreneurs.

Star wars has always been in our collective unconsciousness since its inception after Lucas read Campbell’s Hero with a Thousand Faces. But has this movie entered the political arena?

Students asked Lucas what he meant by the line from “Star Wars: Episode III Revenge of the Sith”: “So this is how liberty dies, with thunderous applause.” Lucas answered that when Rome, Nazi Germany, and after the French Revolution, “In all of those countries, a democracy fell through nefarious manipulations behind the scenes, and the people didn’t seem to mind.” Is he pointing the finger at us, the american public with our crossed messages. Support the troops automatically means you are for war, in this mixed up country it is not sure. Also strikes the cord is Anakin’s line to Obi Won, :”If you are not for the Empire, you are against it!”

Further more Anakin is persuaded by the Emperor, vaguely disguised as a rising Senator much like the younger Bush Senior, to bring in a reign of terror and death to bring safety to the Republic. Another one nudge for the French Revolution and our modern Freedom Fry eaters on Capital Hill. For true Patriots like Samuel Adams, Thomas Paine, and Thomas jefferson; today would be called terrorists. For indeed if they lost the war, history would of gone to the victors and they would of been called so.

In olden days we might walk away from a Myth like Star Wars or the Matrix, and know that some how it pertained to our real lives. But for too long now, media such as TV and the movies have been art for art sake. No longer do we hear the words of Pinnochio or Plato’s Cave and find our lives informed on a better way of life. Or do the papers offer a voice to the workers and the people. This has been replaced by the tabloids on cable and the check out line. Maybe we should go back to believing in our myths handed down for thousand of years throughout the world, and give incredulous glances to the tv news and newspapers. For Myths worked for us since we crawled out of the ocean, of our minds!

So what is this latest episode of the famous trilogy trying to tell us. Or how does Lucas emphasize this by going to Capital Hill. Watch the movie again and see what springs to mind!

Digital City (Part 2 of 2)

Hutchison says it all boils down to who will get what licences, such as Private Telecoms Network licences (PTN) and Value Added Network licences (VANS), as well as the ability to re-sell spare bandwidth capacity. These issues are still under discussion, but it seems that Icasa has been given more freedom in deciding who will be allowed certain licences, and it seems probable that municipalities will be able to re-sell spare bandwidth capacity to service providers.

Yes, the telecoms market was opened to an extent in February this year, but the rules and regulations of playing the game have not yet been clearly defined, specifically regarding licensing, interconnection, the re-selling of spare capacity and local loop unbundling.

There is, however, light at the end of the tunnel, with the Electronic Communication Bill (Convergence Bill) having been adopted by the National Assembly, and sent to the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) for approval. It is expected to be signed into law by the president before the end of the year.

Services

Most people agree that social services and education should be the first points to cover when digital cities becomes a de facto standard. Andy Brauer, chief technology officer for Business Connexion, says, “The average man on the street stands to benefit most from these developments. If service delivery is the focus area this could be a real way of addressing education, training and skills development issues through access to Virtual Library or Knowledge Centres in areas, which are under developed. Alternatively, service delivery could include partnerships in order to provide larger service offerings to the larger communities.” “In terms of services we must see this as several phases. But the potential is there for an array of services, including municipal information channels, IPTV, voice, emergency assistance and even municipal digital subscriber lines.”

Bacher says, “Children’s education and teaching should be the first priority for government when access is established through the digital cities initiative.” Beyers-Clements adds, “Education and information services, for instance to assist people to find jobs and the homeless to find shelter, through kiosks etc, will be at the forefront of delivery. Giving advice, direction, and a solution to those who are struggling would be a good starting point.” Hutchison says that once digital cities are established, the field will be open for endless possibilities in terms of services that can be supplied. He notes that, after supplying basic services, it will basically be up to creative thought and innovation to lead the way for additional services.

Gale believes that the e-services that will be supplied should not just come from government’s side, but that citizens should come to the fore, and tell government what services they need and what is critical to them. Baptiste comments, “Public sector focus should be on the softer issues, with health and education at the top of the list.”

Digital cities are no longer just a dream. They are possible and PPP will see them become a reality for the benefit of all citizens of this nation. How long it will take, depends on the vigour and determination of both government and private organisations.

The X-Files (Season 3) DVD Review

Nominated for 12 Golden Globes and 61 Emmys, including 4 for Outstanding Drama Series, The X-Files is one of the world’s most popular science-fiction drama shows. Premiering in the Fall of 1993 on the Fox Network, home of popular programs such as The Simpsons (1989) and King Of The Hill (1997), The X-Files created an entire fictional world of conspiracies and secret organizations, building a legion of fanatic followers as devoted to the series as Trekkies are to Star Trek. Creator Cris Carter, a former writer for numerous TV shows in the late-80s/early-90s - The Nanny (1993) is one example - brings together the finest aspects of suspense-laden spy novels and alien science fiction. The result is one of the top sci-fi franchises ever produced, spawning its own line of merchandise and even a full length feature film - The X-Files: Fight The Future (1998). With nine successful seasons to its credit, The X-Files is one of the longest-running sci-fi series in television history…

The X-Files follows the exploits of four FBI agents assigned to investigate a series of unsolved and mysterious cases known only as “The X-Files”. FBI special agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny), Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson), John Doggett (Robert Patrick), and Monica Reyes (Annabeth Gish) are the primary agents investigating these unusual cases which could never be solved by conventional investigatory methods. But Mulder and Scully in particular play prominent roles in the series. The partnership and friendship the two develop during the course of the series sets the tone for their investigations into the paranormal with Scully, a medical doctor, playing the skeptic to Mulder’s deeply held beliefs in widespread government conspiracies and alien abductions. Through the course of the series, The X-Files covers a wide-range of frightening and mysterious subjects from killer insects and secret world government organizations to the colonization of Earth by parasitic aliens. In so doing, it adds its own unique brand of humor and an original blend of creativity that fans of the genre will certainly appreciate…

The X-Files (Season 3) DVD features a number of suspense riddled episodes including the season premiere “The Blessing Way” in which Mulder remains missing from last season’s finale and Scully must track him down with her job on the line and while the cigarette-smoking-man pursues the stolen X-Files. When a group of Navajo Indians discover Mulder’s body in a cave, they must summon the forces of the spirit world in order to breathe life back into his empty shell of a body… Other notable episodes from Season 3 include “Nisei” in which Scully and Mulder’s investigation of a videotaped alien autopsy leads them to the doorstep of a World War II-era series of experiments by Japanese scientists, and “Pusher” in which Mulder matches psychic wits with a dying serial killer who harbors a unique power to practice mind control on his victims…

Be the Leader - AchieveMax® Top Ten Book Review

The author of Be the Leader: Make the Difference, a “manual for leaders,” speaks not from theory and research alone. Paul B. Thornton is a consultant, trainer, and speaker specializing in the areas of management, leadership and team building. He has long assisted organizations in the selection and development of leaders at various levels. He has trained over 7,000 supervisors and managers to be more effective leaders.

Thornton believes that everyone has untapped leadership abilities. Organizations must strive to identify, strengthen, and utilize this tremendous potential in today’s competitive and demanding business world. The author visualizes leadership as a complex puzzle consisting of various pieces such as creating a mission/vision, establishing beliefs/values, gaining alignment, empowering, bench marking, motivating, training, and mentoring to name a few. The test for leaders is determining a way to fit the pieces together. Therefore, the author has created a 3-C Leadership Model (challenge - confidence - coaching) which provides a framework to inform leaders what they should do, how they should do it, and when they should do it. His basic premise is that leaders provide their followers with something they can’t provide themselves. Let’s face it, people need help in seeing what’s possible, confidence to take action, and coaching in how to proceed.

Early in the book, Thornton describes the 3-C Leadership Model itself, explains what leaders do in performing each of the key roles and discusses the relationship of the three components. He goes on to provide in-depth discussion of various techniques leaders can use to challenge people using a step-by-step formula for each technique. He then explains various approaches, including “how-to” examples, that leaders use to build confidence in their associates. He continues by describing when and how leaders perform the role of coach and teacher using stories and examples to highlight some world-class coaches.

Much added value is offered in the form of many revealing case studies and examples involving well-known people and organizations. You’ll also find a “Be the Leader Survey” instrument to assist you in evaluating your own leadership skills. This survey focuses on the seven major aspects of the 3-C Leadership Model and may also be used as a 360 Feedback instrument by having it completed by bosses, peers, team members, customers, and direct reports. You’ll also enjoy an in-depth bibliography and many valuable resources to further your quest for knowledge.

In short, this text provides a practical, concise, easy-to-understand leadership model and valuable guidance on how to develop your leadership skills. It’s a valuable addition to any business or personal library.

Join a Mountain Bike Club For Fun, Fitness and Weight Loss

Mountain biking is not all about the extreme, white knuckle shenanigans you see on TV. There is a sector of the mountain biking community who love a good climb, a good view, and meeting new riders. Even if you have never ridden a mountain bike before there is probably a trail near you that is perfect for your level of riding. Trails range anywhere from rugged single track, to fire roads, to old railroad beds. Mountain biking is a great way to meet new people, gain a new skill, enjoy the outdoors, get in shape, and lose weight.

Step number 1. Go to your local bike shop and let them know you are interested in beginning mountain biking. See if you can arrange a bike rental and ask them if they can put you in touch with a local club that caters to new riders. Once you come in contact with someone from the club - be clear to them about your level of fitness and riding skills. Most clubs have a “no rider dropped” policy but you certainly don’t want to go out with extreme riders just yet. Enjoy your first ride and quit before you want to quit. You don’t want to overdo it on your first ride.

Step number 2. Get to know the folks at your local bike shop and they will put you on the bike that is right for you. Plan on purchasing a bike, helmet, water bottles, some clothing, and possibly a bike rack for your vehicle. The cost of all of this is minimal compared to the hours of enjoyment, scenic views, and fitness you will gain.

Step number 3. Get active in your mountain bike club. Start networking with other riders and find out when the club rides are. There may be a weekly ride that fits perfectly with your schedule or you may meet riders who work the same schedule as you who are looking for people to ride with.

Step number 4. Ride your bike! Have fun, meet new people, enjoy the views, get in shape, lose weight, and make friends for life.

Tips on finding a club or other riders in your area.

Check Google. I did a search on Google for “mountain bike club” and received 144,000 results. Try (mountain bike club + your town) in Google and you will surely find something.

Your local bike shop. Your local bike shop knows all the riders and all of the clubs. Get to know them. They want your business and they love new riders.

If you can’t find a club - Start one. Work through your local bike shop, place brochures, and run free classifieds. You undoubtedly will get some interested people.

Of course you need to check with your doctor before beginning any exercise program. Learn the rules of mountain biking and stay with riders who will be patient with you. Get in shape, lose weight, and have fun!

Private Label Rights and eBooks - What You Need To Know

The online eBook marketplace has usually been stocked with titles written by authors who then made resell rights available to those who hoped to profitably offer the book for sale (or, as is often the case with eBay, auction). Generally, the rights the eBook seller obtained were limited to reselling the text of the original eBook as is.

This strategy made a great deal of sense for the original offer. Authors have historically despised having their work edited or their messages changed. Additionally, many eBooks have contained links to products and services in which the author has a vested interest. Thus, in some ways the eBook seller is working as a marketing agent for the author, spreading affiliate links to customer after customer.

In recent years, however, an alternative eBook rights option has emerged and is increasing in popularity. One not only buys the resell rights to an eBook, they also obtain what are called private label rights. In essence, they can edit, change, add to, rearrange or otherwise adjust the content of the eBook as they see fit. They can also “re-brand” the product, claiming personal authorship and or adjusting the title. They can then outfit the eBook with their own marketing or affiliate links.

Instead of merely owning the rights to an eBook they can resell, they actually purchase the right to own the actual material and its uses when private label rights are obtained. This gives the eBook seller a great deal of flexibility and can allow him or her the opportunity to create a unique product that is carefully designed with the overall needs of their online business efforts in mind.

There are detractors to the private right phenomena. They worry that a series of differently-titled eBooks could flood a market, all of which contain essentially the same information. This, they argue, is detrimental to consumers and could cause some loss of confidence in the eBook industry as a whole. They also note that products sold in this way will never have the credibility of a known author associated with them. These complaints do have some legitimacy and undoubtedly warrant a great deal of consideration.

However, the idea of owing an eBook and its contents outright will be almost irresistible for many eBook sellers. They can immediately envision strategies making use of private label rights that make their prior arrangement of owning only resell rights seem as restrictive as a straightjacket.

Only time will tell how the sudden upswing in deals involving the sale of private label rights will effect the eBook industry as a whole. In the short term, however, it would appear that those eBook sellers who invest in private label rights products will have an upper hand on many sellers who are dealing only in eBooks with resell rights.

Anyone who is serious about maximizing his or her profit in the eBook industry should at least research and consider sales of eBooks made with private label rights intact.

Inside Naveen Jain

Naveen Jain, founder and former head honcho of InfoSpace and the current CEO of Intelius, has a knack for driving against quality competition. While working for Bill Gates for seven years may have impressed the Indian-born online entrepreneur and made Gates his personal hero, Naveen Jain sees the Microsoft boss as someone who’s on the downhill slide.

As Naveen Jain himself revealed, he is not “backing off” and “learning golf.”

And that’s exactly what transpired when Naveen Jain left InfoSpace and built Intelius, now one of the most respected and admired companies in North America. Prior to leaving InfoSpace, Naveen Jain drove the company to its greatest heights, with a value of $31 billion and a list of high-profile companies in their portfolio.

When Naveen Jain started Intelius, doubt was a constant thing that popped into the minds of consumers. Now, Intelius has weathered the storm and evolved into one of the fastest growing companies in terms of economic growth. Intelius handles information for small and large businesses, and provides security and preventive measures against identity theft.

In a short span of time, Naveen Jain and Intelius achieved success in the information commerce industry with four million clients and an $88.5 million net worth in 2007.

Intelius received several acknowledgements from respective business organizations, including the Stevie Awards. One of the company’s recent feats is a finalist slot in the “Best New Product or Service” category for its innovative Reverse Cell Phone Directory.

Naveen Jain has come a long way from being a company executive to becoming his own boss, and there are no signs of him stopping just yet.
