A stroll through the home goods aisle of any discount store is a visual feast of charismatic colors and hues painted on the assortment of plastic items that are certain to brighten up a room. From plates to cups to bowls and nearly all else, prettily painted plastic items dominate in the fields of the simple pieces of inexpensive items for the home. But painted plastics serve many other purposes as well, and the process of painting plastic is quite interesting too.

Following its quick assembly in a warehouse specialized in plastic manufacturing, a plastic item is painted, sometimes with a specific coating and color. In many factories the plastic product is first introduced to a spray painting area. Sometimes the employees at the factory air brush the areas of the plastic that have not been completely painted. This technique of painting plastic ensures that the plastic item is completely covered in the color it is supposed to be. The employees may also apply a shading technique to the plastic by painting a small part of it black before applying the intended color.

In one specific factory the spray painted plastic undergoes tampo printing which is when the product is stamped and a soft silicone head goes on it, and this is done by the machines. As the plastic product is finally assembled, and some pieces are glued together, the line left between the adjoined parts may be painted over so that it is less obvious. The final painting of plastic products is also necessary because some pieces may not be the exact same color as the other pieces, so this is corrected. Following this revision, the painted plastic product is packed and ready to be shipped. This lengthy process is repeated countless times so that we have the priceless opportunity of transforming our houses into homes by means of the useful painted plastic products that decorate our living environments.
