Eye Candy? Which Wins? 1080i vs 720p And What About 1080p?

The latest great thing in home theater displays is the emergence of 1080p resolution displays. p stands for progressive, which means the screen fills all at once at 1/60th of a second, versus i for interlaced, which means every other line, then the other half of the full picture, each field displaying at 1/30th of a second.

At this time, there is no source for broadcast 1080p programming. Instead, we have 1080i: two interlaced fields make a frame, at 1/30th second for each field.

Finger it out!

Take your fingers and spread them apart. That’s a crude example of interlaced. When you bring the hands together, you combine both fields and you get the whole picture (one frame). It happens fast enough that you don’t notice the effect unless there’s motion on the screen, then you might see a difference in the smoothness of the motion.

Progressive is all the fingers at once. 720p is fewer pixels, faster: 1/60th second per frame.

1080 = 1920 x 1080 pixels | 720 = 1280 x 720 pixels

Till recently, HDTVs were either 720p or 1080i. Most TV transmissions were 1080i. I believe ABC adopted 720p because it would have shown sports with better pictures. I also remember back when Panasonic Broadcast underwrote ABC (as 720p) - or at least Monday Night Football. Fox and ESPN now also do 720P. The others are 1080i.

The new 1080p sets don’t have the front end circuitry to actually receive that resolution. But, again, nothing is transmitting that res anyway. What the advantage is, is how these sets show 1080i - they have the pixel count to do it without trouble. They deinterlace the transmission and present it full frame without throwing away any detail. A 720p set has to downconvert a 1080i signal. In that downconversion you can lose some detail.

(BUT) OH SAY CAN YOU SEE?

But there’s a more important issue - can you really see the difference in resolution between 1080i and 1080p? Tests of visual acuity to determine the resolution required of a television transmission system by the BBC’s J.O. Drewery and R. Salmon determined that at 9 feet, a 50 inch screen at 720p’s resolution will give you all the resolution you can see! At 9 feet, a 56 incher needs 1080i to avoid seeing the pixel structure.
If you sit farther or closer, you may need more resolution.

1080i vs 720p: MOTION CHANGES EVERYTHING

Motion is different issue. If you want to see motion clearly, then live action 720p is what looks best, compared to 1080i. Here’s why: the information content of 720p is about the same as 1080i, though what it lacks in spatial resolution, it makes up for in temporal resolution (because the picture is at 1/60th of a second, not 1/30th x 2.) On 1080i, this would show as flickered or jagged edges on bright horizontal objects (like in the background of a camera pan.)

The good news? As the retailers hawk 1080p, you might find a killer deal on a 720p set and not give up anything in what I’ll call ‘effective’ picture quality to get it.

Receiver And Subwoofer Crossover Setup

One of the “I don’t want to talk about it” subject for owners of a home theater, is the receiver and subwoofer crossover setup.

One of the complicated things to do when you buy a home theater setting the
speakers and crossover menu. Ok, first you must know that you just have to make
one adjustment, you just need to make the adjustment in the receiver system and
not in the subwoofer system like I was doing it the first time that I setup my first
home theater; a waste of time.

Please don’t forget to turn the subwoofer on before starting with the setup and
putting it in 80 Hz crossover frequency.

When you are doing the setup in the receiver you’ll see in the screen of your TV a
question regarding wether you have a subwoofer running and what crossover
frequency you want to use (many people just told that me the their receivers didn’t
give them a choice of frequency, that they only have the factory set at 80 Hz. that’s
ok). like this the receiver will route all the deep bass frequencies below 80 Hz to the
subwoofer via the subwoofer out jack from the receiver.

Note: Before you continue, remember if your receiver has 100 Hz and no other
choice, you have to use that instead of the 80 Hz that I was explaining before, I only
put 80 Hz because it’s the most common in most applications.

Ok, I was telling you, I recommend to experiment with all the settings, mix them all
and see which settings is better for your room, depending of the size, you can
select the large settings on your receiver for the front speakers ( the main ones) and
small settings for the subwoofer and the surround sound speakers, like this the
sounds with frequencies above 80 Hz will go to the front speakers and the sounds
with frequencies below 80 Hz are going to the sub and the surround sound
speakers. But remember, please, be a child!!! experiment with the frequencies and
see which mix you like the most, because, it’s your home theater, your room and of
course your taste, everybody is different so, it’s up to you.

Note: Please don’t misunderstand what I am saying above, but remember when I am
saying that if you put the subwoofer more than 80Hz, , that is its function and it
could turn in to another speaker instead of the sub for your home theater.

Good Luck.

you know”

There Is a Wide Range of Pushchairs to Choose from

A new parent has to shoulder a number of responsibilities, one of them being buying the most suited baby products and accessories for his/her child. Whether it is food or sanitary products or a pushchair, you have to ensure that your baby gets nothing but the best.

Pushchairs are commonly used for carrying babies while parents can perform their everyday chores. They allow you to keep an eye on your baby without you having to carry it in your hands.

The market is full of different brands and designs of pushchairs that might tend to confuse you. However, you can start by doing an online search with the words ‘pushchair pushchairs‘, or visit the neighborhood store. There are a few common types of pushchairs that you should have an idea of in order to decide what would suit your child the best.

The two common pushchairs that are widely used are strollers and forward-facing pushchairs. Strollers are lightweight and compact pushchairs that are quite useful while travelling. They can be easily folded and stored in small spaces. Forward-facing pushchairs are heavier than strollers, but are more secure.

If you have twin children or children with very less age gap, you should go for a double pushchair. You can opt for a twin pushchair that has a side-by-side arrangement of seats, or a tandem pushchair that has seats one behind the other.

You can also get two or three attachments in one carriage by opting for a two-in-one or three-in -one pushchair. The former generally has a carrycot in addition to a pushchair, while the latter has a carrycot as well as a car seat.

Rent Your Table Linens and Cut Your Event Expenses

Buying table linens for your next big function can be expensive. While you would be able to use them for future events, your ability to decorate the tables is determined by what you already own. In order to justify the expense you’d have to use the same table linens year after year. After all, not many people could rationalize the budget required to buy different linens for a function every year. Table linen rentals is the answer to this dilemma. It’s not necessary to purchase the linens outright when renting the table linens would provide you with all the choice you could possibly need.

Imagine this. When you have access to a good table linen rental company it is similar to owning a huge selection of linens that can be used for your events. A good linen rental company, with a large inventory, can provide you with everything you need. There is no need to trouble yourself with the cost and you can spend your time each year designing a great looking table. For those on a budget, this makes the most sense.

Variety is essential when it comes to selecting a table linen rental company. After all, table linens include more than just tablecloths. You may wish to rent cloth table napkins, table skirting, chair covers or even chair accessories like bands, bagels and bows. Select stunning colors or contrasting linens and you will be sure to make your guests say “Wow”..

A wonderfully arranged table can effectively brighten up a room and establish the spirit and atmosphere of an event. Is your party elegant and chic? Is your party more easygoing and fun? Choose rental table linens that fit in with the atmosphere you are trying to create.

Are you in need of ideas? You can get some wonderful information from decorating magazines and books for the design of your table tops. Study your options and try something new that you may have never seen before. Taking the time to design just the right look for the table tops will be appreciated by, not just those with a decorative flair, but all of the guests.

The next time you are planning a big event, think about the table linens and ways you could use them to jazz up the room. Then find a table linen rental company and see what choices you have available.

Be Interactive, Not Reactive or Proactive

Run, run, run. React to this, react to that. How can you be effective when you are continuously being pulled into situations? You want a way out and you think the solution is to become proactive. But how? And what does this mean? Are you now simply pushing the same people and situations that used to be pulling you? And how can you know if you are headed in the right direction?

Being reactive implies your action begins after the fact; acting in response to a stimulus or situation, as if simply poised waiting for something to happen. I don’t think this is ever the case. I usually feel reactive when I am hit with something I did not anticipate.

The other tactic is to be proactive, which implies that your response is preceding the action. Creating a solution before being requested to have one. Anticipating what is needed and having it ready. This seems like a great position to be in; however you need to know what to be ready for. You cannot anticipate everything. The important question is how to be selective?

What does it mean to be Reactive or Proactive?

A little analysis will show something about these two tactics or styles of business effort.

Benefits: When you are reactive you know there is a situation requiring action. Unfortunately the correct action is usually needed prior to you hearing about it, so you now take corrective action - clean up the mess or stop the leaks. A proactive tactic may head off trouble or anticipate a request. Or, you may be off the mark. You may be doing something unwanted. You will only find this out after you are done - the hero if you focused on the correct situation, reacting yet again if you did not.

Learning: Not much is learned in either case. A reactive style doesn’t pay much attention to expanding knowledge, new skills or finding a better way. There is not much time to learn when you get one situation handled and another pops up. The proactive style is always looking forward; it rarely reflects or evaluates results.

Costs: A lot of effort goes into both tactics. They each take enormous amounts of energy to keep going. Neither is mindful of resources. The reactive style throws everything available at the situation and the proactive style often uses resources to plan ahead in areas that are not needed or important.

Characterizations: A Reactive style is coiled, anticipating, and defensive. The Proactive style is pushing out, busy, and alert. Both are vigilant stances.

Be Effective, be Interactive

What would be an alternative to these two styles? Being Interactive. This means you get involved and stay involved with people without there being a problem or situation. You know what is happening around you. What are your bosses’ goals? What concerns do your peers and customers have? If you have people reporting to you, what are they thinking about? And don’t be shy about your own goals and needs. Make sure other people know what you are thinking and planning. The more you know about your organization and the more people know about your goals, the more successful the organization and you will be.

An analysis of interactive tactics shows a different picture.

Benefits: You are very involved with your environment.

Learning: High levels of insight and knowledge building.

Costs: Maximization of resources; not waiting, not over planning or jumping the gun.

Characterization: Involved, asking questions, doing research, finding out how things work, what is needed, what isn’t.

Will being interactive mean that you will never be blindsided and start to feel reactive? No. However, when the unexpected happens you will have a better sense of how urgent the matter is because you will know the priorities of your business. You will know who to work with so it can be resolved with a minimum of fuss and effort. Does it also mean you never have to be proactive? Of course not, in fact a proactive style will be a natural outcome of being interactive. You will know what is needed and not have to second guess those around you - you will know that you are headed in the right direction and have support and understanding from colleagues and clients.

Will everyone respond positively to this change? No. However most will respond well as they see you are interested in them and their concerns and goals. And others will come around as you practice and model this new tactic and they begin to see the benefits.

How to change tactics

How do you make this shift? Try these suggestions and then share them with everyone.

1) Take time to debrief with all involved; especially from reactive situations. Work with these questions: What could have been done differently? Do we need a contingency plan in place for this (process, strategy, etc.)?

2) Create learning situations with clients and colleagues. Teach what you do and know. Learn what others do and what they need. Update this learning often.

3) Be creative - use the learning to the benefit of all parties. Share ideas, link ideas. Look for best practices, benchmarking, clear roles and responsibilities.

4) Look for barriers to understanding and cooperation. Then work with others to eliminate these as they arise.

5) When going into a new situation, ask of everyone: What do you want to happen? How will we measure our success? Look for understanding, past successful actions - start out right.

6) When completing a task, ask everyone: How could this be better?

Use these suggestions to reduce frustration and anxiety and introduce stability and creativity.

They say it is lonely at the top; this is nothing compared to being stuck in a reactive or clueless proactive position - not being effective when you want to do well. Being interactive gives you a tactic to work well with people. And it might be the tactic that gets you to the top, so you can find out if it is really all that lonely.

What if Television Commercials Were Not Synchronized?

Have you been noticing now if you have Satellite Television that the commercials are synchronized so you are forced to watching them? If you leave one channel for another then there is another commercial break there on that station too? Lately with these vie to seven minute segment on the News Channels they give you two stories under rapid fire, never give you the whole new then the commercial break with some great story up next, trying to get you to wait and watch the commercials?

Have you also noticed that they keep re-running the news but keep telling you to wait for some late breaking new? It’s like déj vu already and they do this everyday. That is enough to make anyone upset along with these synchronized commercial breaks. Now you can buy a system to stop and record the show and then go back later and fast forward thru those commercials for a FEE! Great a new service to block the commercials, when you use to be able to vote with your TV Clicker, but now you have to wait or pay?

Well, you know what I have better things to do than to watch commercials all day especially when I am paying for satellite TV already. This is getting to be aggravating indeed. I ask you; What if Television Commercials Were Not Synchronized? It is time to turn that thing off it is melting our brains and not that I do not care about the Girl in Aruba, but for god’s sakes give me some news. Think on it.

Innovation Management - Testing Ideas

Creativity can be defined as problem identification and idea generation whilst innovation can be defined as idea selection, development and commercialisation.

There are other useful definitions in this field, for example, creativity can be defined as consisting of a number of ideas, a number of diverse ideas and a number of novel ideas.

There are distinct processes that enhance problem identification and idea generation and, similarly, distinct processes that enhance idea selection, development and commercialisation. Whilst there is no sure fire route to commercial success, these processes improve the probability that good ideas will be generated and selected and that investment in developing and commercialising those ideas will not be wasted.

Testing Ideas

Sometimes ignoring everybody works. But this is rare. And only wise if you can afford the loss.

Success is more often related to verifying that the assumptions being made are indeed valid.

Before investing time and money, test the idea:

a) Does it indeed address the end users problem? Is this a problem that they are willing to spend money solving? Irons that talk to the microwave may sound like a good idea, but why will the customer want this and will she spend money on it? How exactly will the consumer benefit?

b) Are we persuading ourselves that the idea will work? Is there a high degree of groupthink? Are we persuading ourselves that the marketing team will create desire?

c) Is there strategic, technical and competency fit with the firm?

d) What are the practical impediments? Are we considering cultural and emotional impediments as well as technical?

These and other topics are covered in depth in the MBA dissertation on Managing Creativity & Innovation, which can be purchased (along with a Creativity and Innovation DIY Audit, Good Idea Generator Software and Power Point Presentation) from http://www.managing-creativity.com/

Learn About the Satellite TV Systems in Your Free Satellite TV Deals

Even if you watch your satellite television 5 hours a day, I bet you can’t tell what a satellite TV system really is.
Satellite television is TV broadcast delivered by way of orbiting communications satellites located 22,300 miles above the earth’s surface. Satellite TV system, like other communications relayed by satellite, starts with a transmitting satellite antenna located at an uplink facility. Uplink satellite dishes are directed toward the satellite that its signals will be transmitted to, and are very large, as much as 9 to 12 meters (30 to 40 feet) in diameter.

There are mainly two types of satellite TV systems: TVRO and DBS. TVRO system, aka Television Receive Only, is the first satellite system available for home satellite viewing system. While the DBS system, Direct Broadcast Satellite is available later. These two satellite systems work in different band (C-band and Ku-band) and their working system specifications are quite a different.

Television Receive Only (TVRO) systems

TVRO systems in United States are often referred as Big Dish TV, C-Band Satellite TV or BUD (Big Ugly Dish). It was the first satellite TV system being commercialized and brought into the U.S. families.

Viewing TVRO broadcast requires a big and movable dish - which is why it is well known as big dish TV. The TVRO dish’s diameter ranged from 3 to 6 feet. It works in C-Band with frequencies of around 4 GHz. As news companies normally transmit their materials to their headquarters using a C-Band satellite; and as many of these types of feeds are not scrambled, chances to unedited news are great. Besides with TVRO systems, you can also receive free channels and independent feeds from for instance news companies.

Ever wonder why do we need such a big dish to receive TVRO signals? It’s because of TVRO’s wave length of these frequencies is longer than in Ku-Band which requires a much smaller dish of about 18 inches. Ku-Band, which is used by DBS, is at 12 to 14 G Hertz.

Direct Broadcast Satellite (DBS) system

Satellite TV services were popular only after Direct Broadcast Satellite system is introduced. DBS is meant for everyone with a simple, low cost installation of the system. Small dish, maintenance-free, and stable signals receptions — all these makes the satellite TV system a good commercial product.
Satellite broadcast via DBS system is done in the Ku-Band. These satellites work on higher frequencies and can transmit higher power signals. This is why smaller dishes can be used to receive satellite signal for DBS systems.

As you might know, a small TV dish of 18 inches is already good enough to receive all satellite TV signals by Satellite companies. This makes it possible to have satellite TV from an apartment on the 10th floor, if you have a clear line of sight to the south. Once installed the dish needs no maintenance since it is aimed at just one satellite. Some dishes actually have 2 or more feeds, which makes it possible to receive the signals from more than 1 satellite.

Unfortunately, there are no free channels available on DBS satellites broadcast. DBS broadcasting are often owned and used by the satellite TV provider (for example, Dish Network and DirecTV) it self. Often the installation is for free as it really is very easy to do. The only thing that is needed is a bit of knowledge of where to find the satellite thus a qualified installer will find the satellite and point it to maximum reception within minutes.

Currently in United States, Dish Network and DirecTV are the major DBS systems provides. As satellite TV services are the latecomer in home TV broadcasting services, they are now fighting hard to win the market segments with extremely low prices. Free satellite TV systems, free DVR systems, free DVD players, free shipping, free installations, free HD upgrades, free home protection plans …they give free things as much as possible! All you need to be to qualify the deals condition is you must commit on the satellite TV deals for one year and you must be a first-time customer. With extremely low start up cost, online satellite TV retailers are now offering some very lucrative offers. Plasma TV - What is the Debate?

Plasma TV Review

Plasma TV review? Anyone who tells you that plasma is the best or worst of the television industry is trying to get you to overlook their bias. The fact is that if you want a new TV that can hang on the wall and produce a bright image, plasma may be the best TV to buy. The electronics industry is behind this technology, so you should look at it.

So how does Plasma work?

First introduced in 1964, the plasma television manufacturers have made huge improvements in processing and manufacturing making this television one of the best. The plasma technology differs from other televisions like LCD and CRT televisions by combining all three colors within each pixel. A charge is sent by electrodes between the glass panels to change the state of the plasma gas. The red, green and blue phosphors glow, creates light on the TV screen.

While some manufacturers use fans to cool the plasma TV, some like Panasonic, have models that are air-cooled. With these models, you need to ensure they have a bit of air around the screen. So don’t mount it inside the wall without some space. The ones with fans can be noisy during quiet parts in the movie.

Here are some pros and cons of different TV technologies

CRT TV - It is the most common television. It is usually deeper than many other TVs and has a glass and metal tube. Recently, a flat version has become popular. Very heavy.

CRT Projection TV - The original big TV. They were the only way you could get a TV bigger than 40″. They usually had a bright zone if you sit at eye level and not too far to the side. There is a bit of a depth to the TV and there is a gradual dimming of the picture as it gets older.

LCD - Flat and thin. What else can you say? Very bright image but can have some trailing with fast images if the refresh rate isn’t great.

LCD Projection Television - First you take small LCD panels and you magnify it before projecting it on a big screen. It stays bright until the bulb dies and is user-replaceable.

DLP Projection TV - The chip was developed by Texas Instrument and has million-plus microscopic mirrors that pivot to reflect light. A bright bulb is shone on this chip and the reflection is projected through a spinning color-wheel. The new kid on the block in TV land. The question is, how are the ball bearings and the other moving parts?

Plasma - The image is created by electric charges to change the state of the gas. Thin is in.
